David Brown, CPA
Dave is Co-founder and Partner of BlackHawk Advisors LLC. His focus at BlackHawk is primarily at the portfolio level, focusing on deal flow and deal quality, modeling and internal controls. Dave graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in English Literature and then served three years as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon discharge, Dave joined PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and worked in their audit, tax and management consulting groups. While at Price, Dave took a leave of absence to return to the Marine Corps where he was promoted to Captain and participated in combat operations in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during Desert Storm. Dave returned to work at PWC where he obtained his MBA and CPA license in the evenings and on weekends. Dave left PWC to join then Kidder, Peabody & Co (ultimately, James River Capital Corp) in their alternative investments group. Beginning his career there as an analyst, Dave worked with the firm’s leadership interviewing, analyzing and assessing the quality and marketability of traders working in managed futures, bond arbitrage and other esoteric trading opportunities. Dave was later promoted to work with the product development and marketing side of the business.
Upon leaving James River, Dave joined an international humanitarian organization with operations in 34 countries to lead a global system implementation team. Upon completion of that project, Dave was promoted to Corporate Controller. Dave then left to join a multi-state, beverage distribution organization as their Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Treasurer. After the CFO position, Dave spent approximately three years as a consultant working with small-to-medium sized companies. One of these engagements turned into a “fund” development opportunity, which led to Dave’s reaching out to his old friend and colleague Ted Jasinski and BlackHawk Advisors was created.
A musician, Dave enjoys playing out locally and on Sunday mornings with his church. He has three grown children and lives with his lovely bride of 33 years on a small farm in King William County, VA.
Ted is Co-founder and Partner of BlackHawk Advisors LLC. He has over 30 years of experience in management, accounting, administration, investing and fund structuring in the alternative investment industry. Ted’s primary role at BlackHawk is Business Development and Sales, Investor relations, portfolio management, and internal Fund Operations functions. Side by side with Dave, the focus is to stay close to the projects and deal flow, and to maximize the business relationships with builders, park operators, vendors and strategic partners. Prior to BlackHawk, he set up and led the U.S. Operations as a General Manager of Admiral Administration (US) LLC, which specialized in accounting and administration of hedge funds and private equity vehicles. It was with this position that inspired his passion for real asset and esoteric strategies.
Ted was also the Director of Fund Administration of James River Capital Corp, a successful investment management firm that reached an AUM of $5.5B. He owns a BS degree in Environmental and Business Economics from Cook College, Rutgers University, 1989.
